Round 8: New layout

Buttonwillow Raceway Park – September 14, 2025

In a day filled with high-speed excitement and camaraderie between drivers, the Racetreads.com 86 Challenge joined forces with our SoCal 86Cup friends for an exhilarating inaugural event on Buttonwillow Raceway Park’s challenging 25 CCW layout. With tire smoke, fierce competition, and record-setting laps, the event showcased the best of grassroots time trials under the California sun.

The GT Radial Stock Class saw a fierce contest among precision drivers, where every tenth of a second counted. Dennis Feng charged to victory with a commanding performance, edging out the competition with a lap time of 2:06.844. Ivan Larionov secured second by the slimmest of margins over Nico Iskos — a mere 0.016 seconds! Honorable mention goes to Saurabh Kulkarni, who battled new engine gremlins caused by loose ground wires but overcame them by midday to post a respectable time. He looked even happier knowing his FA24 was running strong.

In the GT Radial Street Class, it was all about raw speed and strategy. Timur Iskhodzhanov dominated from the front, clocking a blistering 2:05.965 to take the checkered flag. SoCal drift master Luke Daley fought hard for runner-up honors, with Brian Armstrong rounding out the podium.

The Touring Class provided some of the day’s most thrilling moments, with drivers trading positions lap after lap. Bobby Tisher emerged victorious, posting a strong 2:08.148. Tor Anderson secured second, while Miles Kodama claimed third after a mid-day surge boosted by his latest aerodynamic tweaks.

Finally, the Unlimited Class lived up to its name with unrestricted mods on display. Johnny Hu took the win with a lap of 2:09.910, holding off Terry Mai for second.
