86 Challenge Round 8 Results

Thunderhill – Oct 5, 2024

What a hot day of racing at Thunderhill West, running the unusual CW direction! This was the first time we have competed in this direction since the Gen 2 came out, so there were lots of opportunities for PBs and Class records.

GT Radial Stock Class: The competition was close with less than 0.5 seconds separating the adjusted podium finishes. Saurabh Kulkarni, in his oversteery Gen 2, claimed third. With his 2024 title pretty much sewn up, Ivan Larionov secured a solid second place in his Gen 1. With just a handful of real-world track days, Dennis Feng rocketed to the top with an impressive 1:28.549 (adjusted 1:30.049) — proving that virtual practice translates to real-world performance.

GT Radial Street Class: The competition was fierce, with Bill Wu drifting across the finish line into 3rd place. Haowei Wu briefly held the lead while running OEM suspension, but in the end, Timur Iskhodzhanov's data review and double run groups propelled him to victory with a scorching 1:27.717 on his 38th lap in the heat of the day. Who says practice doesn't make perfect? (maybe Will?)

Touring Class: Qianli Xing, with sticky tires and aero on his Gen 2, ran the fastest unadjusted time of the day, a blistering 1:25.863, but the cruel handicap bumped him to 3rd. Tor Anderson grabbed second and Will Lorne demonstrated his alien powers once again. Will took first with a time of 1:27.124 during his 2nd lap ever on this config with his 2.5 pt. Gen 2!

Thanks to all the participants for making this a great time on track and in the pits. And thanks to the sponsors for their unwavering support:

Round 9 will be on Nov 9th at Sonoma with SpeedSF. And don't miss our final event of the year on Dec 14th, at Thunderhill 5-mile with SpeedSF.
