Round 5 Results
Sonoma – May 10, 2025
Beautiful weather at Sears Point welcomed not only a few flocks of sheep, but also both the 86 Challenge participants and our 86 Cup friends from SoCal. Cool temperatures in the morning meant that many had a chance to improve their PBs, or even set new records.
GT Radial Stock Class
Dennis Feng once again demonstrated his impeccable knowledge of the track, setting a new gen. 2 Stock record of 1:53.854 in the very first session, which would even put him on the Street class podium! But nobody matched him in Stock, and he got his well-deserved P1. Chugging along behind some traffic, Ivan Larionov got a P2 and set a new gen. 1 Stock record of 1:57.203, but was still over 0.8 seconds behind Dennis, even after adjusting Dennis’s time for the gen. 2 handicap. Aris Perez completed the podium in P3, hustling his gen.1 around a track in 1:58.683.
GT Radial Street Class
In Street class, Haowei Wu set the quickest lap of the first session, and then beat the class record on the very first lap of the second session by setting a 1:53.007 lap time. However, later in the session, Timur Iskhodzhanov reclaimed his record by setting not one but three faster laps, with 1:52.858 becoming a new benchmark and a P1, which put Haowei in P2. Our SoCal friend Luke Daley grabbed P3 with a lap time of 1:54.561, jumping off some curbs along the way.
Touring Class
In Touring class, Keith Hnatiuk comfortably secured the P1 with his 1:52.418 lap. Back to our series after skipping the entire 2024 season, the 2022 and 2023 Street class champion Miles Kodama cut the air around Sonoma with his impressive transparent(ish) wing in 1:54.104. Bobby Tisher represented SoCal with 1:54.243 in P3. No records were harmed in Touring.
Unlimited Class
In Unlimited class, Joe McGuigan made another comeback with a lap time of 1:47.643 in a highly modified K swap gen. 1. Jay Severson grabbed P2 with a lap time of 1:53.667. Jeff Flogerzi had to drive back to SoCal, thinking what he could have done to not lose those 0.022s to Jay, but still got a P3 with a respectable 1:53.689.
