Round 6: Peanut Butter for Everyone
Laguna Seca – May 24, 2025
86 Challenge gathered at the famous Laguna Seca for round 6 of the competition. Overcast weather and cool temperatures were perfect for new PBs and lap records — and our participants didn’t disappoint. The track might've been gloomy, but the lap times were blazing.
In GT Radial Stock Class, Dennis Feng scored a hat trick with yet another 1st place and a new Gen. 2 lap record of 1:44.690 (1:47.190 adjusted) — 1.4 seconds faster than the previous one. That pace would’ve earned him 2nd place even in Street Class! Only 0.27 seconds behind him, Ivan Larionov snatched 2nd place and set a new Gen. 1 record with 1:47.458. Rumor has it he had a possible P1 lap in the last session, but got stuck behind traffic — proving once again that in racing and on Highway 101, traffic is the real enemy. Nico Iskos took 3rd with a new PB of 1:45.667 (1:48.167 adjusted) — apparently braking late and turning in hot isn’t always the fast line… but it was fast enough to get on the podium.
GT Radial Street Class competition wasn’t as fiery as Stock, but that didn’t stop Timur Iskhodzhanov from completely obliterating the previous lap record by 1.4 seconds. He set a new bar at 1:43.226 and casually walked away with 1st place — we checked, and his car was still running an FA24 engine and SX2 tires. Brian Armstrong set a new PB of 1:45.100 and took 2nd place — not bad for someone who seemed more focused on testing his new oil pan than chasing lap records. Warren Johnsen was busy teaching Ferrari drivers how to use their gas pedals, but still managed to sneak in a 1:47.381 for 3rd place — helped a bit by Alex Deynega’s move from Street to Stock class. Right place, right time? We call it strategy.
In Touring Class, Keith Hnatiuk put the grip of his Nankang CR-S tires to good use and claimed 1st place with a solid 1:42.729. Miles Kodama had his first Laguna event after the engine rebuild and set a PB of 1:44.868 on SX2s — solid time, though we all know he was aiming for something closer to Timur’s number. Guess he’ll have to leave some in the tank for next time. Amit Dhanota joined 86 Challenge for the first time and already landed on the podium with a 1:47.687. Word is he just locked onto Ivan’s bumper like a guided missile — hey, whatever works!
In Unlimited Class, lone wolf Qianli Xing broke his suspension but still set the fastest time of the day with a 1:38.979. Who needs suspension anyway when you're basically flying?
See you next time at Thunderhill East!
