Round 1: One for the Record Books
The 2025 season is off to a smashing start — smashing records, that is. Round 1 at Thunderhill East saw new records in the Gen 1 Stock Class, Gen 2 Stock Class, Street Class, and Touring Class. And we set a collective record: biggest turnout ever with a whopping 33 competitors. Thanks to everyone for coming out and making it a great event.
Early forecasts for rain gave way to slightly chilly, partially overcast conditions. In other words: ideal PB weather. The conditions certainly did not go to waste…
Stock Class
Dennis Feng carried on his great end-of-season form, continuing his tradition of setting a blistering lap in his final session and surprising even himself with a 2:06.478. He beat the previous Gen 2 record, set by Haowei Wu, by an impressive 0.533 seconds.
Ivan Larionov secured P2 with a 2:09.106, extending his own Gen 1 record by 0.349 seconds. Fun fact: Ivan has never missed a podium position in 30 Stock Class events.
Rounding out the podium was Niko Iskos with a 2:07.062 — just a few hundredths off the previous Stock Class record.
Less than one second separated P1–P4, setting the stage for an intense Stock Class battle this season.
Street Class
Meanwhile, in Street Class, Timur Iskhodzhanov threw down a 2:04.544, shattering his own Street Class record by a massive 0.874 seconds and establishing a formidable gap to P2 — Haowei Wu, who clocked a 2:06.291. Brian Armstrong claimed P3 with a 2:06.735.
Our Street Class competitors have some homework to do to close the gap to Timur, but with 14 participants (our biggest class of the day), there are plenty of potential spoilers. Get back to work, everyone!
Touring Class
Will Lorne dominated the competition in the refreshed Touring Class, laying down a 2:00.918 — setting a new Touring Class record by 0.597 seconds (beating his previous record). His primary competition in this event? The clock — as he closes in on a sub-2-minute lap.
This was the first Touring event under the new rules, which eliminated the Balance of Performance (i.e. adjustment time handicap) in favor of a 7-modification-point limit. There were some concerns that previous Touring Class records might be difficult to beat with the reduction in total allowed build points (down from 10 points), but so far, that doesn’t seem to be an issue.
Jason Jin secured P2, while the venerable Tor Anderson took P3. Another fun fact: Tor has also never missed the podium in his 56 events.
Unlimited Class
In Unlimited Class, Tselmeg Enkhjargal put down a 2:09.584 to take the only podium spot in this event.
